I had no idea you people existed in modern times. The Confederate flag was used for the Confederate States of America. The Southern states that decided to leave the "Union" and make their own little country. The ONLY reason that the South wanted to leave the Union was because the recent election of Abraham Lincoln threatened their right to own slaves. This was very important to the South because their main crop was cotton. Since the invention of the cotton gin by young inventor Eli Whitney, much more cotton was able to be grown and harvested in more of a widespread area. However, the plantation owners still needed the slaves to plant and harvest the cotton fields. This was the only reason!!! That IS the Southern Heritage!!! Now why on earth would you have pride about that? Many slaves worked to the bone, including the children. Many slaves did not have an opportunity to stay with their families when they were bought at market. Many slaves were whipped mercifulessly. Some slaves were treated very well, however. They were the exception, not the rule. They also were not free to do what they wish, therefore how WELL could they possibly be treated? The right to own slaves is what the Civil War was about, that is it. Please accept that this was a tragic, and shameful part of your history. I beg you to not fly that flag with pride.
