Are the Olympics an indication that women are becoming more prominent in sports than men?

Question: If you watch the Olympics, it seems that the focus women's competition, which seems more interesting and competitive than the men's events. Are women taking over the world of sports?

YES INDEED!!! I believe this is even more evident at the Summer Olympics, particularly in women's weightlifting which is a relatively new Olympic sport. The female Olympic weightlifters of today are most likely clean-and-jerking and bench pressing more than the male Olympic weightlifters did many years ago. I particularly enjoy watching the heavyweight division of women's weightlifting. In fact, for me, it is a sexual turn-on!!! I am a skinny guy who is over six feet tall. While I was watching a very large, very strong, incredibly beefy woman only 5-foot-6 (but easily over double my weight!!!) lifting three times more weight over her head than what I weigh (she is definitely many times stronger than I am), I was getting A HUGE, MASSIVE ERECTION!!! I'm sure I am not the only guy who gets sexually turned on watching big strong women lifting weights. However, unlike other guys, I AM NOT AFRAID TO ADMIT IT!!!

I saw the women's ice hockey team, and it was a much better game than you see in the nhl. These women are obviously superior athletes.

I believe that this trend will continue until women are finally BIGGER AND STRONGER THAN MEN!!! I believe men will continue to be TALLER than women but women will be BIGGER, HEAVIER AND STRONGER THAN MEN!!! That means if a tall small lightweight man disobeys his short large beefy wife, she will simply PICK HIM UP AND THROW HIM OUT ON HIS ASS!!!

While women on the average are not bigger than men, they are no doubt stronger. It is a proven fact that pound for pound, women are stronger than men. They are also more flexible, coordinated, and have superior endurance. In addition, women maintain their physical prowess well into middle age, while men's strength begins to atrophy after the age of 24. Women outlive men by several years, and have a better quality of life as well. Anyone who doesn't realize that the female is the stronger sex is only kidding themselves.

THAT GAP IS NARROWING!!! Because women are assuming roles and lifestyles once dominated my men, women are now being plagued like never before with HEART DISEASE AND CANCER!!!

I see the growing coverage of women's sports as a sign that women are gaining more power economically. Women are becoming the bigger market. As a result what we see in movies and television will revolve more and more around the tastes and wants of women.

That is absolutely true. Women have an overwhelming edge over men from a marketing point of view. The image of women as successful and powerful symbols is very appealing. People want women to succeed, and therefore they will.

Women may have the upper hand in various sports but the fact remains that because women, on average, outlive men, and because men, on average, are still the breadwinners, women will be left behind to fend for themselves and may even have to be serving themselves CAT FOOD!!! What kind of upper hand is that?

nonymousFeb 19 2010 3:43am
You are living in the past. Women now occupy the majority of the workforce and out number men in universities by a ratio of almost 60 to 40. If anything, men will be depending on women to serve them cat food.

It is absolutely true that women now occupy the majority of the workforce but because most of the money is at the upper management and executive levels (where men continue to hold most of those positions), that majority (of women in the workforce) is at the lower ranks salarywise. It is also absolutely true that the majority of those studying at (and now graduating from) universities are women. However, men in large numbers are opting to study at trade and technical schools which are more tailored to their goals (also leading to rewarding positions) which means that men are not abandoning education. They are simply choosing alternative options to universities. I believe it will take a considerable amount of time before women will be able to catch up with men at the upper management and executive levels. I believe it will happen and I also believe it should happen but I don't believe it will be happening any time soon and part of the blame for that lies with too many women who continue to behave irresponsibly such as those women who take an excessive number of days off work (pushing their workload upon others) whether their reason is to have babies (maternity leave/FMLA) or to attend their kids' soccer practice. Whether college-educated or not, that is no way to move up the ladder in the corporate world!!! Because the politically correct statisticians continue to publish half (or, perhaps, even less than half!!!) of the actual statistics, those published reports we receive, especially through media coverage, continue to be incomplete -- AND THOROUGHLY MISLEADING!!!

The fact is that you are just plain wrong. Women are advancing over men because the female intellect is vastly superior. Combine that with the biological advantage of superior genetic makeup, and women leave men in the dust in all areas. It is understandable that you try to resist the facts of life, because the male ego is too fragile to accept such a concept. Eventually, you will admit what you already know deep inside. That women are the stronger sex.

THE FACTS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES!!! The vast majority of high-level positions, in government as well as in the private sector, are currently held by men. That is not due to one gender being any smarter than the other. It is, at least in part, due to the reasons that I clearly outlined above in Comment 11.

BTW: I am not implying that it is irresponsible for women to have babies (as long as they have the means!!!). I am stating that women are only hindering themselves by taking an excessive amount of time off work that is not justified. Awhile back, I worked in an office of 85 workers where only seven of us were male. What I am stating here is from my own experience of observation and I am sure other men who either work or have already worked in female-dominated offices could clearly see this for themselves. It all boils down to this, especially for women who are interested in advancing themselves: Ladies, what is more important to you? Taking unnecessary time off for personal reasons or advancing yourself in business or in government or wherever you happen to be employed? With so many people out of work these days, employers will have no trouble at all finding someone to take your place which means that they (anyone who replaces you) could be moving up the ladder instead of you. And, yes, I believe women are becoming more prominent in sports, perhaps even more so than men but then again, it is easy to see how determined they are which is why they are succeeding so effectively in sports, perhaps even more so than men. They need to channel some of that fierce determination over into their occupational endeavors (a.k.a. THEIR SURVIVAL!!!).

I enjoy watching Lindsay. What a powerful, strong beautiful woman. She even had injuries and yet she owned the slopes. No doubt she is physically stronger than me!:)

This poll is more about how women are getting control of the economy. More and more things are starting to revolve around women. As a result women are becoming more prominent in the media. Women's sports are getting more attention than in the past.
