Theism. There is one diety, a Female Goddess who made Woman in her image and then created man to serve her.

JH, I think any supreme being is likely to be an equal blend of male and female, or beyond that division altogether, rather than an amazon with a helmet and boob-shaped breastplate.

The problem was set out by the ancient Greek philosopher Epicurus (341 BCE? 270 BCE): Quote: Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is impotent. Is he able but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Whence then is evil? Two thousand years later the Scottish philosopher David Hume was still raising this issue in very similar terms: Quote: Why is there misery in the world? Not by chance, surely. From some cause then. Is it the intention of the deity? But he is perfectly benevolent. Is it contrary to his intention? But he is almighty. Nothing can shake the solidity of this reasoning. So short so clear so decisive? On the other hand George Burns in OH God, Book II said that evil, pain, despair, etc. were built into the system that without them one cannot experience good, joy and so forth. For popular movie philsophy this wasn't bad. Personally I agree with JH above. My own phrase was "Goddess created Woman in Her own image and created males so that Woman could have slaves." JH and I must think alike.

Atheism and Theism are two sides of the same coin. Theism is the belief in the supernatural or the Above or greater than natural. Generally this is taken as a belief in The Diety or a diety or a Pantheon of dieties. Atheism is the negative or denial of existance beyond the common or natural. Theism is positive and Athism is negative. This is not a value judgment but rather descriptive. Atheism is not rational any more than theism. The athiest says there is no God, but makes this as a statement of fact rather than belief. If one chooses to stand on a statement as fact one must be willing to offer proof of which there is none. The only purely rational choice is agnosticism. Agnosticism is the choice to not make a choice, or the admission of the unknown as exactly that - Unknown. A Rational person may choose to be a theist by admitting faith. I may be rational for all that rational thought can encompass and then choose to knowingly make a leap of faith to unproven assumptions that do not directly contradict well established, cogent, and proven fact.

All theists are atheist to some extent. Those who are Christian, Muslim, Jewish, etc believe in one god and not the gods of the ancient Greeks, Romans, or whatever. The only difference between modern atheists and theists is today's atheists have just decided not to believe in one god more than theists.

Athiesm means not believing in anything supernatural. Theists do believe in the supernatural. believing in your own religion, is not athiesm to any extent since it is impossible to believe in all gods and religions at the same time. Saying that believing in only one's own religion is athiesm to some extent, is like saying that a man who likes only beautiful women, is comparable to some guy who totally hates all sex, and lives a life of abstinence.
